PAT (Portable Appliance Testing)

PAT refers to the regular testing of portable electrical equipment, ie Equipment that plugs into the mains or 110v system.  

Regular checks minimise the risk of electrical equipment causing a fire or giving a member of staff or a visitor an electric shock.  Either event could be very expensive or result in a serious insurance claim.  

PAT is not required by law but is a simple method of showing that you take your responsibilities under the "Health & Safety At Work Regulations 1974 & 1999", the "Electricity At Work Regulations 1989", the "European Low Voltage Directive" and the "Provision & Use Of Work Equipment Regulations 1998" seriously.  

As we all know, insurance companies will make maximum efforts to find ways to avoid paying a claim.  Regular PAT is one easy way to keep them happy and avoid problems.
